Dr. Piera Beretta
Piera was admitted to the Basel bar in 1999 and to the Zurich bar in 2008. She joined the London office as an associate in 2008.
Piera's practice focuses on all aspects of M&A and corporate law. Piera is also an experienced litigator (Swiss national and international litigation and arbitration) and has for many years advised international professional service firms that have or consider having an umbrella organisation in Switzerland, particularly in the form of a Swiss Verein (association). Piera is the author of a number of acclaimed publications, mainly in the areas of M&A and Swiss Verein law and regularly speaks at conferences.
Piera holds law degrees from Basel University (lic. iur. 1997; Dr. iur. 2000) and St John's College, Cambridge (LL.M. 2003). From 2001 to 2005 she was a part-time lecturer in private law at Basel University. From 2005 to 2008 she was a fellow of the Swiss National Science Foundation working at the Centre for European Legal Studies, University of Cambridge, on the research project 'The Construction and Interpretation of Contracts in Common Law and Civil Law Countries - A Comparative Study'.
Piera's working languages are English, German and French.
Piera is a member of the Basel Bar Association, the Swiss Bar Association, the Basel Lawyers' Association, the Cambridge University Law Society, the Cambridge University Graduate Law Society, the Winfield Society (St John's College, Cambridge) and the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA).
From 2003 to 2006 she was a member of the board of a charitable organisation in Switzerland which runs a private hospital, schools for nursing and physiotherapy and a home for elderly people.
