Sustainable Luxury | Breakfast Series | Geneva, 4 October 2019

FRORIEP is pleased to invite you on Friday 4 October 2019 to the first event of our sustainable luxury breakfast series on:

The role of ethical fashion towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The fashion or apparel industry has an often underestimated impact on the development of our planet. Beyond the environmental impact which we all know, the fashion industry is also closely linked to labour, gender and poverty issues. It can be seen as a challenge but also as a good sector where to be active to improve the livelihoods of local communities and especially of women. Indeed 1 in 6 people in the world works in a fashion-related job, and 80 percent of the labour force throughout the supply chain are women.

By creating and strengthening social enterprises in emerging economies and their talented local designers, artisans and micro-producers, there is a significant potential to support a virtuous circle that creates not just premium products, but also stable, dignified work, and creative and resilient women, men and communities.

Simone Cipriani, founder of the Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI), a flagship programme of the International Trade Centre, a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation, and Jennifer Faust, EFI’s financial advisor, will discuss how fashion initiatives can be used towards the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how impact finance can support these efforts.
