Xenia Rivkin invited to address the OSCE Security Dialogue via video message
We are glad to inform you that Xenia Rivkin, an associate of Froriep, was invited by the OSCE to present a video message to the OSCE Security Dialogue on the UNSCR 1325 (Security Council Resolution on Women Peace and Security), as an Alumni of the OSCE Scholarship for Peace and Security she received in 2018 to follow a course on conflict prevention and resolution through arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation with a focus on OSCE relevant instruments. The video message is released on Wednesday 21 October 2020.
2020 marks the anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. It is a ground-breaking resolution because it was the first of its kind to recognise women’s leadership to achieve international peace and security and their contributions to conflict prevention, peace keeping, conflict resolution and peace-building. Moreover, twenty years ago the UN Security Council committed to increase equal participation and full involvement of women in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security worldwide. A highly necessary and important commitment.
While achievements have been made to strengthen women’s participation over the years in conflict resolution, peace keeping missions and in the wider field of security, 20 years later much more remains to be done. In her video message, Xenia Rivkin emphasizes the importance of encouraging women “to develop female leadership and management skills in the context of peace and security matters” in order to be of service in their society where too often “only men are encouraged to protect“. While thanking all OSCE State Members for their work, Xenia Rivkin also reminds them to “invest sufficient time, effort and resources to involve women in peace and security at home and abroad“.
Xenia Rivkin is a Swiss practicing lawyer specialised in international and domestic dispute resolution. She has spent one year working as a UN Human Rights Officer in a conflict zone and has litigated an important case of human trafficking in the construction business in Switzerland.
